Interviewer: Why do drivers agree to perform the tests?
Dale Naticchia: The trooper says, “Well, I just want to make sure that you’re okay to drive.” And people think, “I’m okay to drive. I’ll show him I’m okay to drive.”
Interviewer: I know in some states they have a right to refuse those.
Dale Naticchia: They do. You probably have heard about that one man that got pulled over to the side of the road. He was a magician and an acrobat. The officer pulled him over and he says, “Hey, what are those swords on the back of your car”? He says, “Oh no it’s not a weapon it’s part of an act. I juggle swords.”
The officer said, “Okay that’s what you say, but I want to see it,” so he brought the guy out and the guy started juggling the swords for him and another car went by and said, “Man I hate to take a field sobriety test in this town.”
It is almost the same premise.
