Does Having DUI Plates on Your Car Ensure Increased Police Scrutiny?

Interviewer: So this yellow plate would be similar to the scarlet letter. You are now required to place special license plates on your car. These plates inform everyone that you have been convicted of drunk driving.

Dale: It’s the most scarlet of letters.

Interviewer: I’m sure that probably makes you more likely to be pulled over in the future. Is that correct?

Dale: It absolutely would, especially if you’re out after midnight. And some people are required to be out after midnight just in the course of their employment. The yellow plate can certainly grab the officer’s attention. At 12:00 and 1:00 in the morning, the officers are looking for reasons to pull people over and the restricted plate might serve as one of those reasons.
